9 biscuitsIngredients
- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 4 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups cold buttermilk
Method
- Preheatthe oven to 400°F and place a rack in the middle.
- Melt butterin a saucepan over low heat. Pour into an 8x8-inch baking dish, swirling to coat the sides.
- Mix dry ingredients:In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
- Add buttermilkand stir with a rubber spatula until a sticky dough forms and no dry flour remains.
- Transfer doughinto the baking pan, using damp hands to press evenly until it touches all sides. Cut the dough in a 3x3 grid to make 9 squares (they’ll be touching).
- Bakefor 25-27 minutes, until golden-brown and puffed. Immediately re-cut along scores to separate. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
